Endermologie Treatments

Endermologie is a non-invasive cellulite treatment using deep massage and suction to “shrink” the fat cells responsible for cellulite. This mechanical massage technique increases blood and oxygen flow to tissue where cellulite resides, theoretically stimulating the metabolism of fat cells in that area. Fluids from the massaged cells are naturally absorbed and removed during urination. This causes the cells to be temporarily reduced in size.

The Endermologie technique originated in France’s plastic surgery community and is FDA-approved for the temporary reduction of cellulite. It is frequently used in combination with traditional liposuction.

What can I expect during an Endermologie treatment?

During an Endermologie treatment, your physician will set a mechanical roller to massage the treatment area. Definition - What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is a popular term used to describe fat deposits under the skin. It is characterized by the skin’s ‘dimpled’ appearance or what is known as the ‘orange-peel effect’. It occurs due to structural changes happening

underneath the skin’s top layer.  Cellulite is a perfectly normal and harmless condition; however, it is nevertheless a major cosmetic concern for many people. Most women develop cellulite as they age, regardless of their race. According to some studies, as many as 95% of women over age 30 develop some form of cellulite in their body.

Description

Cellulite is a normal occurrence resulting from uneven fatty deposits, mostly below the waistline.

In women, fat is arranged in large ‘chambers’ underneath a fairly thin layer of skin. These chambers are separated by columns of collagen fibers.

Many reasons contribute to too much fat being deposited into these chambers, causing the pitting and bulging of the skin. In addition, as women age, the collagen fibers shrink and break, pulling the skin downward, causing a flaccid cellulite. This results in a quilt-like appearance on the skin surface, especially in areas such as the buttocks, thighs, or hips.

Female hormones (estrogen, and to a lesser extent, progesterone) play an important role in the formation of cellulite. Estrogen is important for the storage of fat, which is needed for menstruation, pregnancy and lactation. Recent data suggest that certain abnormal sensitivity to estrogen causes a collagen breakdown which sets the stage for the formation of cellulite. Progesterone may also contribute to the cellulite problem by weakening veins and causing water retention and weight gain. Adrenalin, Thyreoid hormones and Prolactin also play an important rule in cellulite formation.

Cellulite is mostly a female problem. Due to different body physiques, men tend to have lower percentages of body fat, while women have higher percentages mostly in the buttocks and thighs. Men have thicker skin and the chambers are smaller and more tightly-held together. Therefore, cellulite is not often found in men.

Causes & Symptoms

Many scientists believe cellulite is mostly predetermined by the genes that the persons carry. However, environmental as well as behavioral factors are also important.

The following factors are thought to contribute to the development of cellulite:

• Being overweight. Even though cellulite also appears on thin individuals, excess weight makes cellulite worse.
• Pregnancy. Cellulite problems get worse with each successive pregnancy. The most effective ways for women to get rid of body fat and cellulite and get back to pre-pregnancy shape are breast-feeding, exercise and Vela Shape treatments.
• Aging. As women age, collagen gets broken down and the skin sags. In addition to this, the body’s energy requirement lowers, thus, there is more fat accumulation.
• Poor blood circulation. When there is impaired blood flow to the fat-storage area, collagen fibers are damaged due to the lack of oxygen and the accumulation of toxic wastes. The fibers shrink and thicken, resulting in the quilted appearance of the fat chambers. In addition, because oxygen is needed to burn fat for energy, fat in these poorly oxygenated areas is the last to be used. This is also why cellulite is proves to be so difficult to eliminate. Poor blood circulation is often caused by sedentary lifestyles, smoking and high caffeine consumption.
• Poor lymph drainage. The lymphatic system filters out and carries away cellular wastes and toxins. If it is impaired, toxic products accumulate and inflate these fat cells, causing cellulite.
• Lack of exercise. Cellulite may be caused by impaired blood circulation and poor muscle tone underneath the skin, which are caused by sedentary lifestyles.
• Food allergy. Food allergy causes a variety of symptoms including food craving, weight gain, bloating and water retention, all of which worsen cellulite.
• Highly processed foods that contain preservatives, artificial sweeteners and other additives. Heavy consumption of pre-packaged foods cause builds up of these toxins in the body.
• Yo-yo dieting. Yo-yo dieting causes a woman to lose fat in the upper body while increasing fat deposits in the buttocks, thighs, and hips. Therefore, this practice tends to make cellulite problems worse than they were before dieting.
• Sun exposure. Prolonged exposure to the sun accelerates the skin-aging process and the breaking down of collagen, which holds the cellulite chambers.

It really does seem like a nasty twist of fate. We women are designed to gain weight on our hips and thighs. It’s what gives us, to quote many men, “curves in all the right places”. Great Expectations

Be Reasonable.

It is sometimes a difficult balance to strike: desiring a significant improvement in one’s appearance after surgery, but at the same time maintaining realistic expectations, whether you choose a single procedure or a combination of a few. There are many similarities between art and surgery, specifically surgery and sculpture. While an artist works with raw materials such as marble and wood, a surgeon works with your body. The better the quality of the materials, the better the final piece of art will be. Similarly, if a surgeon is working with a basically well looked after body, the final result of cosmetic surgery will be better. How Does Endermologie Get Rid of Cellulite?

The lumpy, dimpled skin that resembles the look of cottage cheese is what most people would call cellulite. While cellulite is certainly not life-threatening, many women are very uncomfortable with it. Endermologie is a procedure that is non-invasive that works by eliminating the icky lumps in a way that is 100% natural. No injections or surgery is necessary.

Best Candidates for Endermologie

Cellulite can form on any body type and is usually genetic. Cellulite isn’t a matter of having extra fat or being too heavy, it forms because of how the fat is deposited in the skin. Even people who are athletic or skinny can also have problems with cellulite. The best candidate for cellulite removal using the endermologie procedure is one who is healthy, one who exercises regularly and one who is about middle age. Endermologie Procedure

The endermologie procedure is entirely non-surgical. Otherwise, normal activities can be resumed as soon as any soreness has subsided. So what exactly is Endermologie? This process involves the use of rollers that are used over the problem areas. The feeling is similar to that of a deep tissue massage. While the rollers are doing their job, suction is also used to redistribute the skin and eliminate the dimpling effects of cellulite. Each session normally lasts about 35 minutes and most patients are required to schedule between 14-28 sessions in order to see results. After the initial treatments, the end result can be maintained over time with monthly Endermologie sessions. Common side effects of Endermologie include soreness or bruising of the treated area. Many people prefer this method of cellulite treatment due to its non-invasive nature. Obviously, the more sessions you schedule yourself for, the more it will cost. Unfortunately, this cosmetic procedure is not covered by health insurance.

The ideal candidates for Endermologie are males and females who are naturally fit and between the ages of 30-45. For people who don’t exercise regularly the results may only be temporary. People who are overweight usually will not get good results from Endermologie. In addition to being naturally fit, ideal Endermologie candidates also drink water daily, which also contributes to great results. Doctors may ask an Endermologie patient to make it a habit to drink eight glasses of water a day from the time of their session onwards.

It is important to know that Endermologie is not a cure for cellulite. In order to keep your skin looking and feeling smooth, the Endermologie treatments will have to be maintained monthly. Once the treatments stop, the cellulite will slowly start to come back.
